    <description>
Why can it be so difficult to like ourselves? The Validation Lounge Podcast explores this each week with different self help professionals.

Having a positive view of ourselves and confidence in our strengths and abilities are big factors in how happy and successful we are in life.

However self worth is often one of the areas that we struggle with and If we lack this it can have a negative impact on all aspects of our lives and it can determine how well we cope in the face of adversity.

Each episode of the validation lounge looks at what contributes to low self esteem with different professionals who work with people; counsellors, therapists, mediators and coaches, amongst others.

TERMS TO AVOID, REASONS AND PREFERRED PHRASING

“Successful/failed attempt”: This presents a confusing message about the outcome. Use “death by suicide”.
“Committed suicide”: This implies a criminal offense. The preferred phrasing is “died by suicide”. “Completed suicide”: This is more common in academic research or healthcare settings when making distinctions with “attempted suicide”.
For conversational purposes, “died by Suicide” is recommended.
“Triggered”: With the high number of firearm deaths, the preferred term is “activated.”

This discussion/podcast is split into two parts.

Part 1: In this episode I talk to Sanjay Kumar who is now back in Bangalore in India (where he grew up) after living in London for 17 years. Whilst in the UK he trained to be a psychotherapist and worked specialising in supporting gay men and also offered bereavement therapy.

This episode was recorded before the horrendous spread of Covid in India. Before the full episode we have a brief discussion on this (recorded more recently) as Sanjay and I felt it would be appropriate to acknowledge the effects of Covid in his country.

Here are details for 2 charities working on the ground in India supporting families affected by Covid if you would like to help out:

Welcome to the third episode of The Validation Lounge with Phil Georgiou.

Each episode of The Validation Lounge looks at what contributes to self - esteem with different professionals who work with people; counsellors, therapist, mediators and coaches, amongst others.

Phil Georgiou grew up in the UK from a mixed culture family and has lived and worked across Europe and the middle east. Initially beginning his working life in recruitment, Phil went on to work in the television industry before later retraining as an integrative Psychotherapist, counselor, consultant and trainer. Phil is now based in Rome, Italy.

Phil is fascinated by what makes us tick as human beings, and how this constantly changes throughout our lives. He believes that feeling good is like creating a great recipe. We first have to identify and source the best ‘ingredients’ which cater to our own individual needs. We then carefully work to bring them together in the right amounts at the right time in order to achieve good emotional health and wellbeing.

In addition to running a busy therapy practice Phil is the founder and director of two companies, Mondo Equilibrio and mindhamok.com. These offer 24/7 Emotional Support Helplines and Crisis Management consultancy to international students, universities and organizations with operations in Italy, Spain, France, Switzerland and the UK.

Having a positive view of ourselves and confidence in our strengths and abilities are big factors in how happy and successful we are in life.

However self worth is often one of the areas that we struggle with and If we lack this it can have a negative impact on all aspects of our lives and it can determine how well we cope in the face of adversity.

Each spisode of the validation lounge looks at what contributes to low self esteem with different professionals who work with people; counsellors, therapists, mediators and coaches, amongst others.

In this episode we discuss what contributes to our self esteem and self worth. Sarah Fox is a coach and mentor with over 20 years of working in the arts and beyond.

If you are interested in working with Sarah, she offers both group and individual coaching and you can find her at http://sarahfox.co.uk.
